Windows 8 Preview

Microsoft Corp previewed the upcoming version of its new Windows operation system, internally code-named Windows 8 that focuses on optimization for touchscreen hardware, including tablet PCs. The company was introducing the next version of Windows to hardware partners at Computex 2011.

Microsoft is also working to integrate the Internet telephone service Skype into the new operating system after it agreed to buy it for $8.5 billion in cash early last month.

Windows  8 also claim that the new version of the operation system will help partners build devices that take advantage of the new user experience that provide a natural reflection of the device.

While providing a technical preview, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President of Windows Planning, Hardware and PC Ecosystem, Mike Angiulo highlighted on the ability of the new operating system to work across both x86 and ARM-based architectures, including shown to run on a variety of early prototypes.

“Our aim with ‘Windows 8′ is to make the user experience a natural extension of the device, from the time you turn on your PC through how you interact with the applications you know and love.

Modern Warfare 3 Official Trailer to be revealed on NBA playoffs Monday

call-of-duty-MW3

The first, full, official Modern Warfare 3 trailer is set to air this Monday during the NBA finals.

Call of Duty fans, set your DVRs. Whether you are a fan of the Dallas Mavericks or the Oklahoma City Thunder or neither you will want to be tuned into ESPN Monday night. The premiere of the first full-fledged Modern Warfare 3 trailer with gameplay footage will be broadcast during Game 4 of the NBA’s Western Conference Finals.

An alert to the broadcast hit Facebook earlier this week on the Call of Duty MW3 page and earlier today, Infinity Ward’s creative strategist Robert Bowling http://twitter.com/#!/fourzerotwo) posted that “The 1st ever Modern Warfare 3 gameplay trailer hits this Monday, May 23rd. I’ll blast out a link to the HD version as soon as it airs. #MW3″

Video game news site Kotaku last week released a detailed and unofficial report on what is expected in the game. Its report that the game takes players to New York, Paris and London seems bolstered by Activision’s subsequent release of four teaser trailers based in America (with what looks like a New York skyline), France, England and Germany.

The Nov. 8 expected release date is also supported by GameStop’s Modern Warfare 3 pre-order page listing that date.

Playstation Network Back Up

playstation-network

May 4 is the day that the Playstation network down problem was supposed to be fixed. May 4 is here and the world is still waiting for their favorite games to come back online.

Second in command at Sony Kaz Hirai held a press conference in Tokyo said that PSN should be back up later this week, although not all features will be functional. PSN users will be required to download one of Sony’s famous firmware updates, which will also prompt every single PSN user to change his or her password. The password will only be able to be changed on the original console that the account was activated on, or through a validated email notification.

Acer Iconia Touchbook With Dual Screen

Acer Iconia laptop is certainly unique. The machine features two 14-inch touchscreens instead of the tried and true screen-and-keyboard combination, while retaining the same form factor as a standard laptop.

The bottom touchscreen is home to the Acer Ring, which is activated by touching all five fingers to the glass. Then you select from a handful of programs designed to take advantage of the two screens.

There’s a dual-screen Internet Explorer web browser with touch scrolling and the ability to crop and save snippets of web pages. The picture viewer is laid out similarly to the video player and includes the ability to rotate, pinch, zoom and navigate through photos using multi-touch gestures. There’s also a digital scrapbooking app, which is nice for design ideas or other artsy projects.

The two screens affect the Iconia’s battery life tremendously, as well. You’ll be lucky to get anything more than a couple hours out of it before you need to recharge. And though it likely doesn’t need to be said, an onscreen keyboard is no substitute for a real keyboard. The Iconia’s touch keyboard works okay for simple typing but don’t expect to get any real work done unless you use an external keyboard and mouse. The second screen makes the computer heavy, thick and expensive while still stripping out features relatively common to heavy, thick 14-inch laptops. There’s no optical drive, for instance, and there’s not even a memory card reader. It’s an external USB device.
